Get used to one style and you know I might switch

Micky Slim is blowing up a gale this year, and will continue to do so if he keeps putting out remixes like this. This whitelabel release is sure to make it to a full official release at some point, and if it doesn't, I'll eat my hat.

Taking a party classic and giving it a remix is usually an easy way to get a reaction from the dancefloor, but when it's done THIS well, it's even guaranteed a reaction like no other.

House of Pain - "Jump Around" (Micky Slim Remix) [White]

It starts off for the first 1 min 33 secs by giving you the odd recognisable cue along with the "Jump" shouts, giving you a hint as to what is to come, or what you think is to come. 1:54 and the bassline kicks in and raises the roof. Then after 3 mins, you get the breakdown, and you've gotta give props to Micky Slim for basically letting the original play for a whole minute, until the chorus, which is when it gets interesting. 4:40 mins is when the motherload hits. Now if the dancefloor isn't going mad for it by now, they have no soul. I would have the next minute of of the tune on a loop for a good few minutes and I don't think I'd ever get bored :)

In fact, maybe that leaves it open for a bit of editing...bring the track in at the breakdown, so that they think it's just the original, then just loop the rest of the track for a few minutes once the bassline comes in.

The Hoff and Good Music sometimes do go together

And I don't mean that perm haired American drunk who is a musical superstar in Germany, but Christian Hoff, the up and coming talented producer from Boston, in the UK.

Of the top of my head, there are six producers this year that have been floating my boat with every release, and Hoff is certainly in that Super Six.

This guy has a sound that is ripping up dance floors, with his remix of Don Diablo's "Blow" almost doing what it threatens to do by blowing your speakers, and turning JAKAZiD's "Cillit Bang" advert chart attempt into a more than passable dancefloor smash is no easy feat, but his Vocal Dub Mix is well worth having in your collection, as I've mentioned before.

And now he's got a couple of samples up on his Myspace page that are certainly worth looking out for when/if they make the record shops. The Prodigy one really gets going after the breakdown, in my opinion, and the Chemical Brothers is banging from start to finish.

Men Are So Damn Sexy

The Admirals feat. Seraphina - "Männer! (Scheisse Sexy)" (Major Remix) [Superstar Recordings]
This German band is taking the world by storm with it's electro/house/rock fused efforts. I'm making that up as I'd not actually heard of them before this track earlier in the year. It's good though, I like it :)

As Major is actually a member of the Admirals, this is basically just another interpretation of the original rather than a remix by a 3rd party producer. Actually, I think this IS the original, in terms of it being the charted version. That's if it got a chart release, as I'm just going by the video I found on youtube; presumably it's a bit like when Tom Neville remixed "I See Girls" into a proper chart success. I'm not being very helpful today, am I? Sorry.

The vocals are all in German as you'd expect from a German band, but it doesn't really matter that much. The electro bassline and breakdowns are the key ingredients on what makes this track stick in the head. Seriously, one listen and you'll be "hook"ed..

Feeling High, I'm on Top

Swain and Paris - "Come As One" (Si McEvoy Remix) [Spinout Records]
This release is a total label love-in. Swain and Paris do the original, though I think that in itself was a remake of a slower Kevin Swain original. And then you have this peak hours remix from Si McEvoy, the "Events Manager" for Spinout records, who likes his productions seriously dirty.

It's got a great groove going on, courtesy of the vocal cut-up nonsense underpinned by a simple but more than effective electro bassline, and a funky beat that keeps things bouncing nicely.

Hook N Sling & Kid Kenobi - "The Bump" [Cr2 Records]
What a massive tune this is, from the Aussie collaborative efforts of Hook n Sling and Kid Kenobi. No fancy vocal edits, just the odd bursts of female "Ahh" sounds, and a standard drum pattern. It's simplicity is the key to this track's success. That, and the bassline that thumps along very nicely, and maybe those little wobbly synths that keep popping up all over it. In fact, there's not much else I really need to say about it as I can't really do it justice with words.

Mary J Blige never sounded so good

Joshua Harvey, also known as Herve, The Count of Monte Cristal, among others, and one half of ILTT favourites Speaker Junk, so you know know that his output going to be one worth checking out, regardless of which alias he's using this time.

This one is a few months old at least, and I'm not sure where I got it from, but I believe it's since been re-released on the excellent Dubsided label, that Switch has set up. All I know is that the moment I heard it, and not realising it was an Alias, my first thought was "This sounds like Speaker Junk".

It samples Mary J Blige to absolute great effect, but it's the bassline that gives it that recogniseable Speaker Junk bounce.

Face The Music

The Black Ghosts - "Face" (Philipe de Boyar Remix) [Southern Fried Records]
There's been a lot of talk about London-based The Black Ghosts lately, what with "Face" and "Anyway you choose to give it" both being given top quality remix treatment by the likes of Switch, Boy 8 Bit, Kissy Sell Out, The Whip, Playgroup, and more. But without doubt, two of my favourite remixes so far have been the Fake Blood Remix of A.Y.C.T.G.I, which is proper electroclash with some great beats, and the Philipe de Boyar mix of "Face", which I don't think has got enough praise if Hype Machine is anything to by, what with everyone focussing on the Switch and Kissy Sell-Out Mixes of it, so here's my attempt to redress the balance.

This mix of "Face" by PdB, a Swiss Producer, is along similar lines of a lot of the french house sound, after being heavily influenced by Daft Punk in his early DJ career, so if you're into the likes of Teenage Bad Girl, Justice, et al, then this should fit in nicely into your collection.

But don't just get this, get them all. Every single remix of both Face and AYCTGI are worth owning, so get them all.

I'll Behave, ya!

Will Bailey - "Ill Behaviour" [Red Leather]
Well everyone will know what this samples, and another example of a classic dance track brought up to date and given a fresh new sound.

Bailey is one of a number of up and coming producers who are putting out track after track of quality productions, and no surprise that he's connected to Toolroom. In fact, I first heard about Bailey through his remix of "Crunch" by another huge ILTT favourite Richard Dinsdale (who it should be known has put out a quality remix of The Dub Pistols' "Rapture", and another quality original, "She Wants Me". The man just doesn't make a bad track).

But, getting back to Will Bailey, you only have to check out his Myspace page for more evidence of this guy's talent. The cheeky mixes of Beastie Boy's Intergalactic, and King Bee's "Back By Dope Demand" oozes everything that I like in a dirty electro production. Killer basslines, vocal edits, and funky ass beats.

Afterhours mixes are for wimps

I have so many tracks to post about, but I keep going out and getting drunk and watching football rather than posting on here, so there are plenty in the archive from recent months that I can post about.

So this is one of those tracks, and by christ is it heavy.

Nino Anthony - "Dancefloor" [Peak Hour Mix] (Portamento Records)

Available in Afterhours or Peak Hour flavours and i'm sure the Afterhours one does have it's purpose but I'm all about the peak hour, blow the floor away, mixes on here.

Right from the kick and dirty white noise drum patterns, you know you have something special. the synths join in and you know something large is about to drop, but it keeps you waiting.

And when it drops, hell yeah! There's no vocal snippets, no clever edits, it's just layer upon layer of pure heavy bassline driven tech house that you can't help but bounce to.

US based Nino Anthony is dropping some great stuff this year, including the more recent "Smack Talkin", which is more driving tech house, though this time with the vocal edits, and "We Don't Play", all on his own Portamento Records label.

Strange Things are Happening...

Marcella - "Stabbing Sally" [Audiojack Vox] (Renaissance)
After first making an appearance on the Terminal 4 label last year, "Stabbing Sally" gets a re-release with additional remixes this time round from Luke Dzierzek and Audiojack on the Rennaisance label.

Marcella is a dutch DJ, and yes, Marcella really is a woman, so big props for making it in a predominantly male environment, and even more so for making such a great track. While she's probably only really known inside her native Netherlands at the moment, she's certainly a name to keep an eye on as she makes a name for herself internationally, especially if she produces more quality tracks like this. She's a club and radio DJ as well, so she's gunning for fame on all fronts right now.

Leeds-based Audiojack meanwhile are not unknown, having burst onto the scene in 2006, with the awesome "Robot", and "Coastline", as well as producing remixes for the likes of Paul Woolford, and more recently, Vandal.

It's fair to say that the original Marcella track is pretty good in it's own right, but this is the version I would plump for due to that juicy trademark Audiojack sound. As with the Luke Dzierzek mix, there's a Dub and a Vox mix, but there's nothing annoying in the vox mix that would stop me from playing that one out.

I Like These Mixes

It had to happen eventually. Sooner or later someone would send me a full length mix that I just had to post about. Solcofn, an ILTT regular reader and contributor has dropped this mix into my lap that I just had to post about.

73 minutes long, and not a duff track among them, unless you count that dodgy final track. Shame on you, Solcofn, for ruining what was otherwise a fantastic 73 minutes of great track choices, some of which I've been wanting to post up myself, but I think I only have set rips rather than proper versions, so I've had to wait.

Starzoom - "Billie Jean (People Always Told Me)" [Dave Moureaux Remix] (Gusto Records)

The original mix of this is bordering on one of those overplayed house tracks where they take a sample and then loop it, e.g. the beatfreakz, Call On Me, the Baywatch theme, etc, but perhaps just about gets away with it, though Hi_tack(y) do try to drag it back down into the depths of hell with their mix.

Other than the mix I've gone for, perhaps the only other one worth talking about is the Robbie Long & Stormtrooper Remix, which is mainly a Techno with vocals that are just a bit too fast for my liking, but the stand out bits are the drum n bass style breakdowns. if the rest of the track were like that, it'd be played by me a lot more.

So, what we're left with is this Dave Moureaux Remix, which comes in two flavours, the Dub and the Vocal. It starts with some edits that sound like they've come straight out of the "Glitch VST" that I've played about with myself. Sometimes it can sound quite tacky, overused and detracts from the production (at least in some of my attempts!) but I think it fits this production really well. The bassline and synths remind me of a D.Ramirez mix, but as with yesterday's track, it's the stuttered filtered vocals that win me over, though it's not so over used that I feel the need to go for the Dub. In fact, that element of being familiar is quite key to this track being a big hit, in my opinion.

I've not been able to find any info about Starzoom or Dave Moureaux, but certainly a name to be keeping an eye out for in future.

As for Gusto, well, they've been behind a number of big chart crossovers in the last year or so, such as hi_tack's "Say Say Say", Filterfunk's "S.O.S. (Message in a bottle)", and Uniting Nations "Out of Touch" all featuring on their label recently, and this is a worthy addition.

Additionally, one that I don't think really made much impression on the charts at least, is Don Diablo's "Blow", which is well worth owning. Also, ILTT tip for 2007, rising star Christian Hoff does outstanding work in one remix of it. Worth having that as well, along with a lot of other productions by Hoff.

Pump it, stomp it, jam, trip on this!

Sometimes I need a kick up the arse ocasionally, or I get a bit lazy, or get a little bit bored/sidetracked and end up doing other things instead. So thanks to David, who sent me an email last week asking why I wasn't doing any updates on this blog - it's nice to be reminded that there are some people out there who actually find this blog useful and consider my selections. :)

The real reason for my absence was that I'd actually managed to lose my entire collection of recent electro tracks as my cheap MP3 player/USB Hard Drive decided to give up the ghost, meaning everything I had was no longer accessible. This annoyed me somewhat, and I decided not to bother collecting any new stuff for a while while I sulked.

But I finally got off my ass due to much bugging from Phil, who kept pestering me to update the blog, and I finally decided enough was enough, and that I should stop moping around, and just start building up a new collection, so that I could start mixing again, and therefore start keeping this blog up to date again.

So with that, here's a fucking HUGE track to kick things off with. Currently number one on Beatport's chart, and no surprise really. The original is a classic anyway, but this gives it a fresh up to date sound that is just mind blowing.

Global Deejays feat. Technotronic - "Get Up (Before The Night Is Over)" [General Electric Remix] (Superstar Recordings)

One listen and you'll be hooked. The other remixes aren't bad, but this one is the main act that ticks all the right boxes for me. Solid beats, a bassline that makes you weak at the knees, stuttered vocals that are still immensely singable, and a breakdown that is heavenly. What a way to make a blogging comeback.

Global Deejays were responsible for another favourite of mine, "The Sound of San Francisco". It's cheese, but with enough meat about it that they get away with it.

P.S. My electro collection isn't a totally lost cause, as I've pulled the 2.5" 40gb HD out of the casing, and if I can get a little external USB drive thing for it, I may still be able to recover all the older stuff I've blogged about previously.

Prinz & Wallus - "Musikgeschichte" [Dennis Hurwitz Remix] (Scream and Shout Recordings)

I wouldn't have been surprised if this had been out on Mena, given the melodic synth hook that stays in your head for days.

This is an all-German affair, full of relative new comers, with the original made by Roger Prinz and Sascha Wallus, from Hannover, remixer Dennis Hurwitz from Essen, and the record label coming out of Cologne. It's the 9th release on the label.

A quick one today:

Tube & Berger - "The Young And the Wild Ones" [Kolombo Mix] (Kittball Records)
Something a bit more laid back than previous days. vocal snippets and some nice synths overlaying a bassline that pulsates throughout.

Tube & berger are probably best known for their big "Straight Ahead" track featuring Chrissie Hynde, which itself was a rerecorded version of their "Geradeaus" track, with a german vocalist.

Meanwhile Kolombo is one third of loulou players, who've done remix jobs for Sharem Jay and David Eckenback over the past few years, but is doing stuff under a solo moniker so that he can explore and experiment with his sounds, from dark electro to minimal.

Mind Electric - "Dirty Cash (Money Talks)" [Dirty South Club Mix] (Art & Craft)

An update on the original Stevie V club classic, a new vocalist, and a new sound to bring it up to date, without varying too much from the original.

But it was a hard one to call between this mix and the original (not the original original) mix. They're both equally good, and I'm still not entirely sure why I've decided to post this one instead of the original (original). I even ended up buying both of them last week so that I didn't have to decide which one to leave behind.

So that's my suggestion, Get both, because they really are both worth having. The basslines in both are the main draw, and of course, the familiarity with the original (original original) version.

One thing I do like about this mix of it though is the sliding bassline, and the orchestral stab/synth sounds that punctuate the track, compared to the original (not the original original).

Phew.

if you're coming home with me you're running out of time

Firstly let me mention a tune that was sent my way recently. Solcofn - a fan and regular visit of ILTT since it began - has remixed ATOM's "Digital Technology" track, and apparently they're both due out on release soon, on Kusic Recordings. I'm not the biggest fan of minimal house, but I can appreciate the production that goes into these tracks.

I've not heard the original yet, so I can't really compare the remix to it, but I thought I'd give it a mention. You can check it out for yourself at Solcofn's Myspace Page.

Now onto the main attraction :)

Space Cowboy ft. Nadia Oh - My Egyptian Lover [Ben Macklin Remix] (Tiger Trax)

Continuing my trend of posting up big well known tunes months after everyone else has probably already got them, here's my favourite mix of a big tune that was released last week. Actually I say my favourite mix, it's a hard choice between this and the original. they both offer something different, and so it's worth having both in your box, in my opinion.

There's also a few other remixes such as the Loose Cannons 'Luxurious' remix, and the RogerSeventyTwo Mix which are worth checking out, and the later being a new name that I've not heard of before but will be looking out for more of his stuff in the near future. The Paul Jackson one seems relatively pointless, as it's too much like the original for my liking, and the orignal is pretty damn good in itself, so you might as well stick with that one.

But this particular mix that I've posted, I think I've put my finger on it. it's a cross between King Roc, and D. Ramirez, which is no bad thing at all. The beats and the bassline are reminiscent of D. Ramirez, the breakdowns are King Roc. And it's the shortest 7 min track I've experienced in a long time. if that's not a mark of quality as well, I don't know what is. Ben Macklin is on my research list for this week (along with the aforementioned RogerSeventyTwo).

One Post My Love

N'Dea Davenport - "One Day My Love" [D. Ramirez Vocal Mix] (Curvve Recordings)

I can't believe I missed this one last summer. No idea how it happened, given my love of D. Ramirez. My defense is that there were a lot of remixes available of this at the time, and I somehow missed the D. Ramirez version in among a bunch of crap. (That might be a tad harsh, as it's not really crap, just not my thing)

Luckily someone I know knew how much I loved D. Ramirez stuff, and played it one night recently in a set. I think it was the dub version, but the production was unmistakable, and I knew I had to have it. I went searching and decided that it'd be the vocal mix that was the one for me.

The vocals perfectly suit the remixed production to a T, the breakdowns are gorgeous, and the bassline and synths that make up the main hook is top banana. Now that I've found this I'll definitely be including it in a few sets in future.

This is a solo effort from N'Dea Davenport, better known for her work in The Brand New Heavies, and perhaps less known for her backing vocals on the Robbie Williams hit Lovelight, which was featured in this blog (albeit the soulwax ravelight dub mix of it).

The Rapture - "W.A.Y.U.H (People Don't Dance No More)" [Simian Mobile Disco Dub Mix] (Vertigo)

It's been a long while since the last post, 2 months now? We're in a whole new year, so happy new year! better late than never!

While I'm here I think I'll post my top 5s of 2006!

5 Top TUNES

Richard Dinsdale - "Wallop"
Tough choice between this and Crunch, but this one just about wins. Lovely sound to it, very funky, great beats and a hint of cut up vocal. typical dinsdale greatness.

Ferry Corsten - "Junk" (D. Ramirez Vocal Remix)
If I had to pick one D. Ramirez track for the year, this would be it. Tough choice though. As I said, so many to pick from this past year, and everyone has their favourite, whether it's his remix of Plump DJs - "Electric Disco", or the charted Bodyrox - "Yeah Yeah" remix, which probably would have been my other choice, had this one not popped up towards the end of the year.

King Roc - "The Tip"
I originally jumped on the Tom Neville mix of this track, but over time I've found the original to be my preferred version. It's got a bit of everything in it in terms of what King Roc can do in his productions.

Dave Spoon - "At Night"
Big Big tune, for me at least. had to play it LOTS AND LOTS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mason - "Exceeder"
I can understand why this got a chart release, but I hate the chart version with the princess superstar vocal, retitled "Perfect". Far from it in my opinion. The original is king.

5 Top PRODUCERS

D. Ramirez
Not put a foot wrong all year, with top class remixes coming out left, right and centre. No surprise he got chart success through his remix of bodyrox - Yeah Yeah, once it'd got a new vocal on top (which in my opinion ruined it). Not for the first time this year with Chris Lake's "Changes", Mason's "Exceeder" and the Tocadisco remix of The Egg's "Walking Away" entering the charts courtesy of a vocal being added to it in a bootleg which then became official. Coincidently, Tocadisco got ripped off as he only got his original remixer fee, and missed out on the windfall when it reached the charts. Not sure if that ever got resolved in Tocadisco's favour, but I wonder if D.Ramirez got the same treatment.

Richard Dinsdale
I expect this guy to be huge. He's done some great remixes ("Your Mistake", "Velvet Dreams"), and some great originals ("Wallop", "Crunch", "Pulling Me Under"), and I guarantee one of his tracks will blow up in 2007 and make him a house hold name.

This guy is just amazing. The release of Ross Ross Ross, and the remixes of Kelis and Uffie this year, has shown that his 2005 productions were no fluke.

DJ Touche
Churned out quality productions in 2006, with remixes of Cajmere's "Say U Will", Wekan - "Skid" and Phunk Electric's "Video Games Crash"

King Roc
It was the Tom Neville remix of "The Tip" that got me onto this guy, and on further investigation found some quality productions in "Digerital" (on the "Tirades of ENV" EP), "Better ways", and "Take Me Away".

Other notable inclusions: Chris Lake, for "Changes", "Babaloo" (with Trophy Twins) and Shake (With Micky Slim), Trentemoller for continuing to producer remixes that are right up my street while doing originals that aren't quite my cup of tea but worth listening too once unless you're really into Minimal, and finally Micky Slim ("Raw Kemistry" remix, and Shake, with Chris Lake). Oh, And Aaron McCllelland. He'd have been in my top 5, but he spreads his tracks out in so many aliases it's hard to put him down in the list. :)

4 Top LABELS (it's late, and I don't want to think about #5 too much right now)

Home of the most melodic electro house of the year. Aaron McCllelland and his various aliases have come up trumps time and time again. In fact so many of the releases on this label have been McCllelland that I don't know who's NOT him. Col Hamilton, Yer Man, Effin & Blindin, One Motion, etc, have all produced some cracking tracks for this label this year, and will no doubt continue in 2007. Maybe they'll even get their website up and running sometime this year!

Mark Knight's label was home to Dave Spoon (the brilliant "At Night"), Richard Dinsdale, Robbie Rivera, Noir and even D.Ramirez (the Toolroom Allstars EP) in 2006. If you're thinking about heavy duty electro basslines then this label was synonomous with it.

Data Records
Being owned by MoS and all that goes with it, this label picked up more than a few big tracks in 2006. If it was a big chart smash, there's a good chance that it was on Data Records and a reasonable chance it was after initially being released on a smaller label. A few examples: Beatfreakz - "Somebody's Watching Me" and "Superfreak", Supermode - "Tell Me Why", Fedde Le Grand - "Put Your Hands Up For Detroit" (on various labels like C2/CR2), Sharam - "Party All The Time" (Spinning Records, Yoshitoshi, etc) , Mason - "Exceeder" (Various), Prydz vs Pink Floyd - "Proper Education" (out on Prydz' own label first). They've been quite prolific, no?

Mark Mendes - "Wam Bam" (Mar186)

I'd not heard of Mark Mendes before this track, but I'm gonna be tracking down more of his stuff if it's like this. He's a young (only 19) Canadian producer, and if he is capable of churning out tracks like this at his age then there are good things to come in future.

This track reminds me of a richard dinsdale production, the beats, the bassline and the vocal edits. The only downside is that for the length, there's just not quite enough variation in it to really keep me interested for the whole 7 minutes, but it serves it purpose in a set.

2-4 Grooves - "Like The Way I Do" [Steve Murano Electro Makeover Remix] (Get Funky!)

Melissa Etheridge never sounded this good. What a fucking tune this is. Wobbly slightly distorted bassline and cut up vocal, a la sebastiAn, justice, switch, etc. There are loads of remixes available for this tune, which I gather is out in the charts this month, probably already, but this remix is the star of the show. 2-4 Grooves are a german production team who've done lots of those dodgy house tracks where they take a sample from the 80s, and then turn it into a house tune. This is their first official release, and it's pretty much more of the same. However, this remix from fellow countryman Steve Murano, turns it into a proper tune.

Wally Montana ft. 45 Flat - "45 Flat Theme" [Digital Dog Cut Up Remix] (Audiofreaks)

This is the (digital) dogs bollocks. A HUGE banging Hip Hop/Electro track. Imagine that Tom Neville mix of "I See Girls" that did the business last year, but BETTER in every way.

Just an awesome track all round and rightly getting cained by DJs all over.

Wally Montana is apparently an alias, or his original name. Nobody seems to know, according to the official press release type stuff. All they're willing to say is "Wally Montana aged 30, lives on Sunset Avenue". Which is nice to know, but I've gotta say, it's the remix work from Digital Dog that should grab the headlines on this. Digital Dog are actually 2 producers from London, Steve Cornish and Nick Mace. The work on this remix is vert similar to the production on Digital Dog's "Dirty", which also featured 45 Flat. Worth checking out just to compare them. They've also done remix work for Fatboy Slim, on "Champion Sound".

Slyde - "Space Bass Rock" (Finger Lickin')
Full of bassy goodness. This is probably more breaks/electro than the tech house/electro that I would normally post. Slyde are Robin 12Tree and Jason Laidback, who is a DJ with origins in Hip Hop scratch DJing. This becomes evident on this track, as it has elements that sound like they'd be at home in a Grandmaster Flash production, alongside breaksy beats and a heavy duty bassline.

They also happen to be two thirds of the Backstage Sluts. Small world, eh?

Oh, and according to the bio, apparently Jason Laidback is responsible for "A Juicy Red apple", but unless it's a different one to the rave classic by skin-up, I've not seen any connection between the two to confirm it.

Sharam - "PATT (Party All The Time)" [Dennis Christopher Dirty Edit] (Data Records)
Sharam (Tayebi) is one half of Deep Dish. The original version of this solo effort has been doing the rounds for a while, getting a shitload of huge support from everyone.

Various versions of this tune are available, so you're bound to find something suitable for most tastes, including a remix from Data Records' man of the moment, Fedde Le Grand, which I also rather dig.

This is the one that does it for me though, proper electro banger with limited use of the vocal. big big tune!

It uses the Rick James produced ‘Party All The Time’, which was sung by the now washed-up actor and future spice girl husband, Eddie Murphy. Rather amazingly, it was a #1 US hit back in 1985, and no doubt will be back in the top 10 charts when it's released on christmas day. A strong end to the year from Data Records.

What with this being on the Mena label I assumed it was another alias of Aaron McClelland, but turns out it's by 2 producers, Hamish Brown and Hamish Williams. Other than that, information about the pair seems to be lacking, and they only seem to have released a couple of tracks 10 years apart.

Judging by this track though, I'd love to hear more from the pair. A typical Mena release, with an instrumental hook that you just can't get out of your head. If you liked Effin & Blindin's "Yes We Can" track I posted a while back you should like this as well.

Yes! Again! AGAIN!

It's not often you see a Touche track get remixed, but for once you'd have to say that Touche's original production has been improved on by Angello.

Angello, real name Steve Josefsson Fragogiannis, is a Swedish DJ/Producer and owner of Size Records. He can usually be found co-producing on many tracks with partner in crime Sebastian Ingrosso, under various aliases. Together they hit the big time, commercially, when they remixed/sampled 80's classic "Small Town Boy" by Bronski Beat, and released it as "Tell Me Why" by Supermode. They were also the force behind Fireflies, who have been on ILTT before.

Along with Ingrosso, Eric Prydz, and Axwell, he is part of a group dubbed "Swedish House Mafia", because of their Swedish roots and similar style in house music.

An alias of Italian DJ/Producer Andrea Cerutti, also known as DJ Fuzzy Hair, and La Griffe. The original first turned up in 2005, but I think really picked up support when it was re-released on Southern Fried along with the Touche and Boy 8-Bit Mixes. (also worth getting!)

This time I think it's the Boy 8-Bit version that drifts further from the original, but the Touche touch is still evident on this one.

A little mini touche week

I've mentioned before on this blog that DJ Touche is one of my favourite producers. His remixes are top notch productions that are fresh and bouncy as hell. And yet, in 70 odd posts, I've not actually posted any Touche tracks, probably because I've had a tendency to post about stuff I'd play out rather than stuff I'd play when I'm sitting at home listening to music.

That's the thing about Touche. I love his sets, and I love his remixes, etc, but it's not something I myself would play out. Regardless, he's still in my top producer list.

So, on the suggestion of somebody I spoke to recently, I'm going to do a little Touche mini-week, starting with:

Cajmere ft. Dajae - "Say You Will" [Touche Remix] (Data Records)

Cajmere, otherwise known as the legend that is Curtis (Alan) Jones, or perhaps better known as Green Velvet (the huge 2001/2002 hit "La La Land") teams up again with dance diva Dajae on this release. The original mix of this was already on heavy rotation for me being as it was a great track already with it's booming drums and bassline that you can't help but move your body to.

But then the Touche mix turns up, and it's just as good in it's own way. The vocals are distorted, manipulated and vocoded, and a combination of a bleepy bassline on top of a second pulsating pumping bassline pushes the track in a new direction from the original, as generally happens when Touche gets his hand on something.

In fact, the only thing that remains largely untouched is the violin synth that pops up halfway through.

Marc Romboy vs Blake Baxter - "The Club" [Early] (Systematic)
German Systematic label boss, Romboy teams up with Detroit's Baxter again for this 2 track release, with this Early mix and a Late mix, the minimal laid back affair.

But, as always, it's the pumping mix that I go for. It's all about that pulsing bassline, that while initially doesn't go unchanged, eventually develops into a slightly modifed one that creeps up out of nowhere, while Baxter recites hypnotic commands to the hot women on the floor.

Depeche Mode - "Never Let Me Down" [Digitalism Mix] (Mute Records)

Digitalism have been responsible for some of my favourite tunes/remixes in the last year or so, with their "Zdarlight" track, the Cure - "Fire in Cairo" reworking, their involvement in Azzido Da Bass's "Strobelightz", and their remix of the Futureheads - "Skip To The End", to name a few.

And now this track is the latest production to be given some Digitalism treatment. It's taken from the Digital Download edition of the Depeche Mode - Best Of compilation, which also features mixes by ILTT faves Boys Noize, and Olivier Huntemann & Stephan Bodzin. This track has a touch of that french-house sound, a la Daft Punk, SebastiAn, Justice, et al, more so that their other stuff. It's a track full of squelchy, distorted, vocoded, filtered brilliance, that I only wish was longer.

Random Bleeps, Basslines, weird noises, a good beat, odd vocals, a great breakdown...This is just a brilliant track that comes from regular Israeli collaborative partners, Adir Elimelech (Huge-A) and 1/3 of the Flash Brothers (Ruven, Ilan and Shmuel Flaishler). This got a lot of plays from me earlier in the year, and will definitely feature in my 2006 top 10 list next month.

Stephan Bodzin & Marc Romboy - "Phobos" (Systematic)

The German duo release this track on the Romboy-owned Systematic label, in a AA release which featured "Ferdinand" on the other side. This one here is the better of the two by far. The bass and lead melody on it is one of those that just stays in your head is not easily forgotten.

Beta Blokka - "Social handgrenade" (Silver Planet Recordings)

South coast action from two Dave Robertson-taught producers. They're receiving big support from other ILTT favourites like Dave Spoon, Danny Freakazoid, Mark Knight and James Zabiela, and this track is an example of why.

This track has quickly grown on me. Initially it didn't grab me as much as I hoped it would, but having listened to it a few times now I've been converted, and I'm really feeling it.

Yer man - "Work It" [Dub Mix] (Mena Music)

Mena come up trumps again, and by extension so has label boss, Aaron McClelland. Yer Man (Aaron McClelland himself - also known as Effin & Blindin and Fonzarelli to name two more alias), has made some top quality dirty electro productions over the last year or two, and this is no exception. The vocal version is a little bit too annoying for me, so I prefer the dub version.

The bassline builds up and gradually carries the whole track along, although thinking about it, I'd probably like to see someone come up with a remix and make some mad squelchy distorted shit to go with the bad ass bassline, but for now this version is on repeat.

This is an update of Scritti Politti's "classic" - "Wood Beez (Pray Like Aretha Franklin)" and there seems to be some secrecy about who the Audio Thieves actually are..So they're either REALLY famous, or not very famous, but still need an alias in order to release tracks with uncleared samples, or they're totally unknowners, who happen to know people who can do great remixes....

Anway - I seriously recommend getting any remix by the Van She Tech posse, because they know how to make a great remix. Other great examples include I Am Finn – "I Love You" (Van She Tech Remix), and Valentinos - CCTV (Bang Gang vs. Van She Tech Remix), both of which are seriously good and mentioned many times across the blogosphere.

But this particular track I'm posting, er..it sparkles.....it Bangs!

Death From Above 1979 - "Romantic Rights" [Jesper Dahlback Mix] (679 Recordings)
I heard this the other night, and prior to this, I'd never have thought that a DFA1979 track would ever be played more than once on my stereo.

Usually when I hear a track while out and about, they don't stand up to repeated listening, so when I first heard this, I didn't know if I was loving it because of the time and place I hearing it. I'm happy to say, hearing it again now, my opinion hasn't changed in the slightest.

Jesper Dahlback is John Dahlback's Cousin, who has also made some cracking productions over the years, such as his remix of Cirez D's "Knockout".

Oh, it's from 2005, and shortly after I think they made a decision to split up, not officially announcing it until August this year. However, one of their members, Jesse F. Keeler, has gone on to form MSTRKRFT, so it's not all bad.

The thing about DFA1979, MSTRKRFT, and the like, is that they are so trendy that every other blog wants to post about them. So, right now I'm fighting the urge to post MSTRKRFT tracks on THIS blog, because it's well covered elsewhere, by talented and long standing bloggers. The same goes for the likes of Justice and SebastiAn, who are both bloody great, but being done to death elsewhere. For example, check out the Hype Machine to see who's posting about what.

Maybe I should list a few links on the right hand side of the blog to those that I sometimes check out from time to time.

Col Hamilton - "Catch It Kill It Scran It" [AMC Remix] (Mena)

I like the original, but this remix is even better in my opinion. It just adds so much to it (vocoded vocals, warmth, and pleasant synths) that it's infinitely better than the original. It's the only one worth listening to now. But I still wonder what Scran It actually means?

And this is now the forth Mena track I've put up so far...I think they've almost cemented their place as my number one label this year. :D

So instead of that, here's a JZ remix that is absolutely bang on. More than 9 minutes long, and a bassline that is shit hot. I have a feeling this track is no doubt going down a storm at clubs around the world, and I am convinced it's already gotta be supported by a lot of big name DJs, so you might as well follow their lead. I hear the single is out next week.

Some history behind the track: it started out as a commission for an American TV show, before going on to feature as the opening track on a Dave Seaman compilation. The general public opinion that it was the best thing on the compilation meant that it had to be released. I'm sure if that was the end of the story I'd have never bothered to check it out, because Sasha and Charlie May's musical output usually has no interest to me. But instead, that's when Sasha protege James Zabiela got called up to do remix duties, and according to PR guff, having finished the final cut on the plane journey out, proceeded to use it as his tour set opener.

I'm sure it went down a treat. :D

OK, not a monster track in the monster banging big tune sense of the word, but it's a good little whitelabel release that is pretty good if you drop it at the right time, e.g. like this post coinciding with Halloween. ;)

DJ Grad - "Piano 99" [Micky Slim Remix] (Rising Trax)

This starts off like a typical Micky Slim production if other tracks like his original "Acid is the Bomb", and his Chad Lewis remixes are anything to go by. But then you get that Piano coming in during the breakdown, which is presumably the hook from the original track. It then starts to get a bit glitched up as it builds up, and when the track gets going again it somehow reminds me of Tocadisco's remix of The Egg - "Walking Away". All in all, a pretty damn good track.

Shake That Ass!

I've already blogged about Chris Lake previously, having mentioned my disgust that they ruined the perfectly good "Changes" by sticking a vocal over it, as well as raving about his previous collaboration with the Trophy Twins, and his remix efforts on making Rogue Traders even better than they already are.

But, up till now, I've never mentioned another top notch producer. Micky Slim first came to my attention with the briliant remix of Chad Lewis' "Raw Kemistry", which makes brilliant and innovative use of the last line from Eric B & Rakim - "I Know You Got Soul", when he raps, "Rakim'll Say [Peace]".

So that's about them. Here's what they've collaborated on:

Thanks to Colin for putting me onto this track. I'm still waiting to hear the original, so I don't know what the Noize White remix adds to it, but this version is pretty good. Love the first bassline that comes in after 1 minute, then after 2 minutes it drops out, and you just know by the way it's building back up that something special is about to hit you....

...and there it is. That fucking wicked bassline comes along, and then they add that squelchy distorted synth to the proceedings.

My one criticism is that the vocal does get a bit boring half way through. Thing is, the fact it's Lake and Micky Slim in the first place, I just can't help get the feeling that it was a pretty tidy track to begin with. I'll probably add an update on my feelings once I've heard the original.

This old one (from 2001) was recently pointed out to me, and it's an absolutely banging track. With the intention of posting it up on here, I was doing some research I was shocked to find out it's origins. Apparently it's actually a production/remix made for a Ghent-based dance group, called Kung Fu, for a production they were performing called Discotheque.

If you didn't already know, it's origins in Ghent, Belgium, may have already given it away.

Jaytech - "Genesis" [Pablo La Rosa Remix] (Rapid Response Recordings)

Almost forgot about this one from Aussie, Jaytech, but recently caught onto it again, so I thought I'd post it. In fairness pretty much all of the remixes I've heard of this track are all damn good. They all feel different, but retain the feel of the original, which was pretty good in the first place.

I've gone for this one because it's got the right sort of sound that I personally like right now, but if you're not quite feeling this particular mix, have a look for any of the others such as the Christopher Lobsinger remix, Jimbo's Afterburner Remix (aka Jaytech himself), or even the original, because I reckon at least one of them will float your boat.

Booty Luv - "Boogie 2Nite" [Danny Freakazoid Remix] (Hed Kandi Records)

I had to check the blog to see if I've ever posted a Danny Freak track before, because I seriously rate him. Turns out I've never posted anything before, which is a bit of shock because I loved his collaborative remix with Elvis Benait on Fedde Le Grand's "Just Trippin", but maybe I'd started this blog later than I realised.

The fuss over Boogie 2Nite has largely passed me by, despite it being a rather big club track, and is due a chart release soon But Danny Freakazoid has stripped back the original, leaving just a small snippet of vocal, and building up an electro track that is probably a shade minimal. I still like it though, and I think is definitely my favourite of the remixes available.

Also, check out Danny Freakazoid's original tracks, such as "Discount", "Teken" and "Nasty". I've not heard his recent album yet but if it's anything like those 3 tracks I'll be happy.

Basement Jaxx - "Take Me Back To Your House" [Speaker Junk Remix] (XL Recordings)

I FUCKING LOVE THIS. Dirty, filthy and nasty! Jaxx need no introduction, so I won't bother. This track is all about the remix anyway. Speaker Junk are new to me, and definitely loving what I'm hearing so far. Check out Speaker Junk's own original track, "Scratch Up The Music", which is also full of hard hitting beats and basslines that will mess up those speakers. It's just all so bloody great. More Speaker Junk coming soon I think. Definitely one to keep an eye on!

This is another track from the upcoming Toolroom Allstars EP, from which I took the Dinsdale/Knight collaboration "Crunch", last week. This one isn't quite as good in my opinion, but still a great track. As with "Crunch", this track also has two great producers combining their talents to produce something that will take a hold of the dance floor and not let go till it's finished.

Style Of Eye - "Watch Out!" (Eye Industries )

One from the summer, and what a thumping tune this is. Dirty Techy Electro at it's best. I found out about Sweden's Style Of Eye through their excellent Switch-like remix of Wekan - "Skid", that provided a great alternative to the brilliant DJ Touche Mix which I love. Well worth digging out both of those remixes if you can.

Rob Mooney - "Relay" (Bass For Breakfast)

Rob Mooney is another talented young producer who is making big waves in the field with releases like "She's a Trip" and "Feelin' Electro" having been supported by some top DJs.

Now comes "Relay", on his own BFB label. The track is on a AA release with "Cherry Picker" on the other side, which I think is probably going to grow to be my favourite of the two, but Relay is probably the more peak time track of the two, which is why I'm posting it.

Andy Cato - "The 7am Drop" (Pack Up And Dance)

Best known for being half of Groove Armada, Cato releases this simple but effective lush sounding track that is very aptly named, on his own label. There's probably only one time and place this should be played. The strings and pads on this evoke all the right feelings, and if you're sitting at home and feeling those autumn blues, then that deep bassline carries you away to warmer climes.

Tronso & Stian Klo - "Sodium Lamp" (Benchmarc Records)

Can you hear it? Right at the start there, building up..."Filthy Chav, Filthy Chav, Filthy Chav".

But the real reason this track initially captured my attention, from the summer, is because the bassline in it sounds so much like the one in Soundhog's "Curdler". Depending on how you found this blog, you may or may not know who Soundhog is, so see the links below for more information about that particular talented bloke. Anyway, I'm almost convinced they've swiped the sample of it from that track, but I' m sure it's just a coincidence there.

Regardless, the rest of the track has kept it in my head for a while, so see what you think of it.

But, as we reach the conclusion of the Dinsdale week..I've saved the best till last. Richard Dinsdale has teamed up with Mark Knight for this track, which will be appearing on an EP containing a couple of big name producers each collaborating with MK. I gather the EP is to be called "Toolroom Allstars EP", and features Mark Knight, Richard Dinsdale, D. Ramirez (of too many great remixes this year to mention), and Dave Spoon (of summer smash "At Night" fame.)

Hints of the balearic original in this with the vocals during the breakdown and the lovely melodic bass, but RD takes it down a glitchy electro path to give it a different spin.

Roman Salzger - "Neo Dancer" (King Kong Records)

A Deep Bassline and an Alter Ego "Rocker"esque squealing synth make this a great track. The flip side, 12bit dancer is even better, in my book, but I've not got that yet. grrr.

Electrixx - "Second Lesson" (Hadshot Records)

I've recently discovered Electrixx, and I've enjoyed what I've heard so far. "Detector", "Instinct" and "Lucky Strike" are great examples of what they can do.

Now this is the most recent track from them, I think, and it's an absolute cracker. The stuttering and distorted vocal snippets and synths are just great.

Secondly, continuing in the series of Richard Dinsdale, here's another track with him on remix duties. Loving both breakdowns on this one, especially the way the bassline comes back in after the first one. The whole thing hangs together in an incredibly addictive tune, and the vocals compliment it superbly. Certainly no need for a dub mix.

Richard Dinsdale ft Wray - "Pulling Me Under" (Toolroom Trax)

Taken from a 3 track EP, this being the title track, alongside "Don't Feed My Ego" and "Simple Text".

This one's been in my collection for a few months, and I still like this one because it's easy to drop into most sets at nearly any time, depending on how much you touch that pitch control. The vocals compliment the simple bassline really well, and the whole track is just great. More than just a filler, in my book.

Mekon - "Yes Yes Y'All" [Duke Dumont Remix] (Wall of Sound)

Thanks to Dave Starsky for pointing me in the right direction for this one. Highly recommended, starts off great, and then halfway through the Justice/SebastiAn/Mr Oizo/Ed Banger label type glitching takes it up another notch. It has also reminded me that I really do need to check out Mekon's recent album "Something Came Up"!

DMS12 - "Velvet Dreams" [Richard Dinsdale Very Very Wrong Mix] (Juicy Too)

Another remix, with a different feel than his usual work. It has a simple feel about it, with a touch of the "Switch" remix style about it. Not a full on banger by any means, but it still works really well.

Jim Rivers is one to watch out for this year. One track I'm really loving is Catch 22, which has a lead synth that makes it sound like a remix of a Radiohead track in their Kid A/Amesiac period. Not a bad thing in my book. It's bloody great, and worth getting hold of.

But here's a more recent track from the up and coming producer. On this one it's the bassline that drives the track. Catchy, reminds me of King Roc's - "The Tip", for some reason.

Robbie Rivera ft. Marnie - "Your Mistake" [Richard Dinsdale Remix] (Toolroom Records)

Well, we started off showing off an original Dinsdale track, so now let's highlight his remixing skills. This is essentially the track which led me to finding out just how good Dinsdale is. It's a piece of cut up quality, with a throbbing bassline and banging beats that had me quickly looking for my next fix to see if it was a one off or whether he really was that good. I'm glad to say that he is. :)

Richard Dinsdale is far and away my favourite producer. The guy just knows how to make a track pump in the right way. He is totally on fire right now and has knocked out a string of remixes and originals that make me want to jump around like a loon and wish I could emulate the sound he knocks out.

So, because I've got so many tracks I want to post about, I'm going to post a Dinsdale track each day along with the usual track, for the next week.

Today's track is the awesome "Wallop", which was on an AA release with "Code Red" back before the summer, it totally demonstrates the skills he has.

Rogue Traders - "Watching You" [Chris Lake Downtown Dub] (RCA)

Following on from yesterday's Aussie theme, we have the Rogue Traders. In fact, the guitarist in Rogue Traders was also in The Superjesus with Sarah Mcleod, who I posted about yesterday.

Rogue Traders made their breakthrough in the UK with "Voodoo Child", with remixes coming from Tom Neville, and Rogue Traders Member James Ash himself, the later of the two was the remix I preferred.

Their next big UK hit is Watching You, where they recorded the riff from The Knack's "My Sharona". I have to say that I find the original tracks catchy as hell anyway, but to make me posting about them on this blog a bit more credible I've gone for the Chris Lake Downtown Dub.

Sarah Mcleod - "He Doesnt Love You" [Hook n Sling Vocal Mix] (Renaissance)

Normally when there's a dub version of a track it's usually what I'll prefer playing most, especially when the vocal is female because they're usually so lovey dovey and shite (see most commercial house tracks for examples). But there's something about this one that makes the vocal track the one I prefer to play.

Maybe it's because the female singer concerned in this track is Sarah Mcleod, an Australian who was once the lead singer of a rock group called The Superjesus, which gives the vocal it's edge.

There are a few remixes of the track, but the Hook n Sling mix is definitely my favourite.

Starski & Tonic, Resident DJs of Culture Club, Ghent where Soulwax themselves were once residents, and Dirty Dancing in Brussels, joined up this year with a third member in "Othello", to form The Subs.

Substracktion is the latest release from the guys, and I look forward to hearing plenty more if it's anything to judge by. Starts off with a bassline that wobbles, squelches, distorts and generally creates havoc. It had already won me over on that alone, but then the breakdown comes along, and it has this nice little melody that comes in to add a new dimension to it.

Probably best known (albeit probably not known by name) for the remix of the Egg track, "Walking Away", which finally made it into the UK charts recently via a 2005 Bootleg that paired the remixed track with David Guetta's "Love Don't Let Me Go". King Roc is definitely up in the top 4 of my current favourite producers (alongside DJ Touche, Sebastian and Richard Dinsdale), with "The Tip" being one of my tracks of the year. Also released earlier this year was a 3 track EP containing "Tirades of Env", "Diesel Tribe", and this track.

Following on from yesterday's post about Trentemoller, he has been churning out some great remixes over the last year or so. His remix of Sharon Phillip's "Want 2/Need 2" is rocking (not forgetting the equally brilliant Switch remix), and the Yoshimoto - Du What You Du (Trentemoller Mix) also did the business last year as well.

Because of the success of that there's now a remix package containing a few new remixes, alongside that original Trentemoller mix, and version that I can't stop listening to out of those new remixes is this one:

Trentemoller - "Always Something Better" [Trentemoller Dub] (Poker Flat)

Taken from Trentemoller's "Last Resort" album, there are 3 different versions of this track by Trentemoller himself. There's the original, a vocal version of the original, and then a remix/dub version. This is the latter. It's simply wonderful. Everything about it. Stunningly great. Everything is in the right place, and has the right amount of it. Top Work.

There's also a Herbert mix on the single release which is also pretty damn sweet, but this one gets the nod for me on this blog.

Chris Lake & Trophy Twins - "Babaloo" (Pop Pop)

Forget the commericially whored vocal version of "Changes" that was released this summer, Chris Lake is a big talent, with "One Too Many" from last year being the track that had previously captured my attention. And now this newer track is bringing me a lot of joy.

I think this track uses the acapella from the late 90's house track "White Treble, Black Bass", by Australia's Sgt Slick. It's been used to great effect here with some lovely stuttered vocals over a hefty bassline and killer beats in this collaboration with Trophy Twins. If I remember correctly, the Trophy Twins did a rather good remix of Olav Basoski's "Waterman" which I couldn't get enough of last year. On that basis and this latest collaboration, maybe I need to check out a few more of their tracks as well. :)

Effin & Blindin - "Yes We Can" (Mena Music)

From what I can tell this track could do with more exposure as it's hardly got any mentions anywhere on the web. Which is rather unfortunate because I think it's yet another incredibly catchy, great tune from the Mena Music label.

The only problem I have with it is that it takes a while to get going (2 mins and 32 seconds before the track finally gets going) and the hook doesn't ever last long enough (20 seconds, the first time it drops) to get the people going until about 2 minutes before the end when the hook finally lasts a full minute.

I reckon it needs a slight re-editing and maybe some extra elements added into the mix to build the track up better to make it reach it's full potential, but regardless, I still rate it as a tune I like.

I don't normally venture into Eric Prydz' Pryda Friends label much. I'd much rather hang about in the Mouseville camp instead, where Prydz himself (as Cirez D) releases the sort of tracks I would normally go for.

But this track, made by Prydz' Fellow Swede DJ friend Henrik B, is worth having. It's the B side to "Airwalk" which is also pretty good, but I prefer the B side, so here it is.

Surkin - "Radio Fireworks" (Institubes)

A french funky house track that has a sound that is very popular these days, if a little challenging to mix into most sets. :)

The Institubes label is also home to another current favourite of mine, Para One, and sounds like fellow countrymen, Justice, SebastiAn, Mr Oizo, and the Ed Banger Records artists that are also rather popular on blogs around the internet.

No doubt I'll feature tracks involving them at some point, but for now, here's a track that caught my eye from the latest Mixmag, which has a DJ Touche mix (another favourite producer of mine lately - and another who will no doubt feature on this blog soon) on the cover cd.

Freaks - "The Creeps" [Vandalism Remix] (Azuli Records)

The original is undoubtedly a classic, and it (and it's numerous remixes) got played by everyone back in 2004 when it first came out.

But there were 2 other remixes that weren't released back then: a Lee Coombes mix, and a Vandalism mix, which have now subsequently been released by Azuli this year.

So, here's the Vandalism mix of it, because it's definitely a tune in my book, and I know someone who is eager to hear it, so I thought I would oblige. :)

Roger Sanchez feat. Lisa Pure and Katherine Ellis - "Lost" [D. Ramirez Lost In Rave Mix] (Stealth Records)

I'd not heard the original until right this minute, and quite frankly I wish I hadn't.

Roger Sanchez has never been one of my favourite producer/DJs by any means, and knowing that the original has some soppy lyrics (I googled for em prior to hearing a stream of the original from Sanchez' Myspace page) was enough to tell me that I should have stayed clear of his latest one, but I had to hear it anyway for research purposes so that I could subjectively choose between the remix and the original.

D. Ramirez never ceases to amaze me these days with his productions, and this is no exception. Quite frankly there is no contest here. He's salvaged something from the original and made it into a quality tune. Yes, I know it's all subjective, and some people will prefer the original, but they're wrong, and D. Ramirez is right. So very very right.

Fedde Le Grand - "Put Your Hands Up For Detroit" [TV Rock and Dirty South Remix] (Data Records)

I've come across Dirty South before, and are highly recommended, but I'd not heard of TV Rock before, so I now have some homework to do this week!

I can't emphasise enough how much the original PYHUFD track just didn't do it for me. It was massive in the clubs, I know, but personally, it just didn't do anything for me. Subsequent releases have improved my opinion of Fedde Le Grand, and now finally, I have a version of the original that I do actually like, and all because the bassline is now a little more interesting than it was before. That's it. that's all that was missing. Now I'm happy and I can move on.

Nils Noa & Rene Amesz - "Stereo Style" [Original Mix] (Lot49)

Not much I can say about this track really. It's on Meat Katie's Lot49 label, and is by Norwegian Nils Noa, in a collaboration with Rene Amesz. It's a meaty dirty house tune, with fx and vox glitched and distorted to perfection. Absolutely BANGIN!

Loco Dice - "El Gallo Negro" (Ovum Recordings)

I'm not usually one for the deep minimal sound. This track is the B side on this release, with Flight FB7475 on the other side, but it's the b-side which is doing it for me.

I'm not really sure WHY I like this, there's just something about it. It takes a long time to build up before the deep bassline finally comes in, but it's one of those tracks that gets under your skin and can be on repeat for hours without you realising. At least for me anyway.

Taking the cut up vocal from the original track, Tony opens with it and turns the original track on it's head to deliver a much harder thumping house track that makes all the right noises.

Benny Benassi Presents The Biz - "Satisfaction" [Steve Murano Remix] (Data Records)

The original is already 3 years old, and this remix came out in the same year, so I'm amazed I've only just heard it! It's a hefty 8 and a half minutes long, and sounds like 3 remixes in one.

The first 3 minutes of this track are great in it's own right, though doesn't sound much like the original but for the ghostly vocals from the original like you hear in poltergeist when the girl is trapped in the TV. That's the best I can describe it!

But then the breakdown comes along at 3:05, and by 3:37 you're thinking it's a different, though pretty boring, standard house remix because it sounds more like the original again but for some heavier beats.

But then at 4:34, just a minute later, it breaks down yet again, and this time when it kicks back in is where the real beauty of the track is. It's the best satisfaction remix ever, in my opinion! :)

Ferry Corsten - "Junk" [D.Ramirez Vocal Mix] (Positiva)

This is just blowing my mind. Typical D. Ramirez production on the remix, but the dub version that I heard first time around just didn't have enough to keep my interest. Then I heard the vocal version and the missing piece fell into place.

Fucking AWESOME track. Drop it!

One Motion - "Mercy" [Original] (Mena Music)

Being a Sunday, this is quite an apt choice!

Mena Music definitely put out some good stuff on their label, and this is no exception. I'm not normally one for the cheesy commercial house you get in the charts, but this is one I enjoyed. A memorable hook which you can't help but sing to yourself when you're out and about, along with a very complimentary bassline makes this one of my favourite tracks from a few months back. Simple yet effective.

Beauty School - "Disco Sux" [Solead Remix] (Erase Records)

I bloody do love this. The original is a great punky breaks track which is definitely worth checking out, and is going to be getting all the support it deserves. This is a typical 4 to the floor electro remix, which I'm sure is also a hit in my book.

The vocoder vocal grabs me immediately, and then that Bassline comes in. But what really makes me love this track is the vocals. I think that wins the dancefloor over.
